Projekt-il (Germany), Echodrama Cultural Group (Greece) and Association Compagnie Noura (France) are inviting performing arts teachers (in dance, music or theatre) to participate in the project "Cultural Integration Through Performing Arts Activities", co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union through the German national agency Jugend für Europa, on the Greek island of Skiathos from August 25 till September 8, 2019. Forty (40) performing arts teachers (in dance, music and theatre) based in Germany, France and Greece will be given the opportunity to participate in a research project on how to facilitate the cultural integration of marginalised people, including immigrants and refugees, using performing arts activities as a means of non-formal training.




Project description

The "Cultural Integration Through Performing Arts Activities" (CITPA) project is planned to take place on Skiathos Island in Greece from 25-08-2019 till 08-09-2019 (25-08-2019 and 08-09-2019 will be the travel days).
The main aim of the CITPA project is to equip performing arts teachers (some of them being immigrants and refugees themselves) with competences and methods so as to address the needs of marginalised youth, including immigrants and refugees, and facilitate their cultural integration in the European environment.
The participating organisations decided to carry out this project by taking into consideration the contribution of education through performing arts in bridging gaps and improving mutual understanding between the host country and young immigrants and refugees.
According to this project, 40 performing arts teachers (15 based in Germany, 15 based in Greece and 10 based in France), some of them being immigrants and refugees themselves, will meet on the Greek island of Skiathos for four reasons:
i. to be trained in integration issues through workshops and seminars
ii. to interact with the other participants, share and exchange ideas and participate in parallel activities and events
iii. to interact with the young immigrants and refugees of the island and experience the integration methods taught during the training seminars
iv. to organise performing arts activities.

During the training course, the participants will be taught:
• new innovative ways to improve the quality of teaching and to support professional development
• new techniques of teaching performing arts to marginalised youth
• methods of creating performing arts productions to be used as an educational tool for the cultural integration of marginalised youth

The training course will take place at the Cultural Hall of the Gymnasium-Lyceum of Skiathos. The performing arts activities will take place at the Municipal Theatre of Skiathos.

The specific objectives of this project are:
1. to enhance the capacity of organisations and youth workers (performing arts teachers, some of them being immigrants and refugees themselves) in their support for young marginalised people
2. to help young marginalised people to socialise and express themselves without necessarily speaking immediately the host country language, through performing arts activities
3. to improve the skills of participants as far as integration issues are concerned
4. to improve the capacities of the participants in teaching performing arts to marginalised youth, incorporating elements of other cultures in European culture.

The project consists of:

1. Training seminars and workshops
2. Creation of performing arts case studies
3. Interaction with young immigrants and refugees
4. Parallel activities and events
5. Daily reports
6. Presentation of the performing arts case studies.

Participating organisations

PROJEKT-IL (Germany)

PROJEKT-IL is an organisation whose goal is to produce theatre arts creations which reflect perceptions of social issues, integration issues and gender issues. PROJEKT-IL produces theatre and theatre arts projects for traditional stage spaces as well as for public spaces with unconventional and innovative ideas. PROJEKT-IL’s cross-generational theater projects involve both professional collaborations and participatory public theater.

ECHODRAMA Cultural Group (Greece)

ECHODRAMA Cultural Group is a non-profit cultural organisation founded in 2006 and based in Athens, Greece. Its main objectives are:
• the promotion of the cultural integration of youth and students in multicultural schools, by presenting dance-theatre performances dramatising the history, literature and philosophy of Greece, using the language of dance,thus teaching youth who don’t necessarily speak the Greek language,
• the cultural education of performing arts teachers on integration issues through performing arts, taking into consideration the need for integration of marginalised groups in the culture of the host country,
• the promotion of Greek culture in Greece and abroad, through the creation of dance and dance-theatre productions, which combine contemporary dance with other forms of performing arts (music and digital art),
• the development of capacity of dance teachers, dancers and choreographers in contemporary dance and dance-theatre,
• the organisation of contemporary dance and dance-theatre seminars and workshops.

Association Compagnie NOURA (France)

Association Compagnie NOURA is a non-profit artistic and cultural organisation founded in 2011 and based in Chateauroux, France. Its main objectives are:
• the promotion of various cultural exchange actions,
• the promotion and sharing of African culture through the inititation to the arts and traditions and through the production of performances,
• the support of social actions in France and abroad,
• the promotion of collaboration with various socio-cultural structures and with organisations which promote cultural exchange and the Arts in general.

Expenses covered

• Travel expenses:
a) For the Germany-based participants: roundtrip airfare Düsseldorf-Athens-Düsseldorf, bus tickets Athens-Mantoudi-Athens, ferry tickets Mantoudi-Skiathos-Mantoudi.
b) For the France-based participants: roundtrip airfare Paris-Athens-Paris, bus tickets Athens-Mantoudi-Athens, ferry tickets Mantoudi-Skiathos-Mantoudi.
c) For the Greece-based participants: bus tickets Athens-Mantoudi-Athens, ferry tickets Mantoudi-Skiathos-Mantoudi.

• Meals: breakfast and one main meal every day

• Accommodation in hotels for the whole duration of the project (double and triple hotel rooms).

Criteria for the selection of participants

• Availability and expression of interest for participation in the project
• to have experience in working with young people
• to be performing arts teachers
• to be educated and experienced enough in order to be able to contribute constructively in professional development learning experience that will be organised in the framework of the CITPA project
• to be interested in working with immigrants and refugees or to have experience in working with them and in promoting cultural integration
• to be committed to the transfer of knowledge and skills to other professionals and to further exploit the learning outcomes
• to be interested in the subjects of the proposed seminars and workshops and be motivated to lifelong learning and professional development
• good knowledge of English language
• gender balance
• seventeen (17) of the selected participants should be immigrants or refugees in the countries of the partners.
